Der vorliegende Teil dieser Europäischen Norm legt die allgemeinen Anforderungen an die Komponenten von Garnituren aus Schrauben, Muttern und Scheiben für nicht planmäßig vorgespannte Schraubenverbindungen für den Metallbau sowie an die Garnituren selbst fest. Er gilt für Schrauben und Muttern aus Kohlenstoffstahl, aus legiertem Stahl und aus nichtrostendem Stahl. Die Norm gilt für Gewinde von M12 bis M36 und für die zugehörigen Scheiben. Die Verwendung anderer Größen ist jedoch nicht ausgeschlossen. Schraubenverbindungen mit Komponenten nach dieser Europäischen Norm können auf Scherung und/oder Zug beansprucht werden. Schrauben, Muttern und Scheiben nach dieser Europäischen Norm sind üblicherweise nicht zum Schweißen vorgesehen.
