Diese ÖNORM dient als Grundlage für die Abschätzung der Korrosionswahrscheinlichkeit von unlegierten und niedriglegierten Eisenwerkstoffen, welche durch die Einflüsse von Boden und Wasser gegeben ist. Ausgenommen sind Maschinen- und Anlagenteile, bei welchen andere Schutzmaßnahmen zur Anwendung kommen, wie z. B. Zinküberzüge, Polyethylenumhüllungen, Zementmörtelauskleidungen. Nach der Abschätzung der durch die einzelnen Faktoren bedingten Korrosionswahrscheinlichkeiten wird auf die Voraussetzungen für die Maßnahmen eines Oberflächenschutzes und auf die Arten der Beanspruchunge, welchen der Oberflächenschutz genügen soll, eingegangen. Ebenso sind Hinweise für die Wahl von Oberflächenschutzsystemen auf organischer Basis enthalten.
