Die unterschiedlichen Auffassungen über den Löschwasserbedarf und die Möglichkeiten der Bereitstellung desselben aus der öffentlichen Versorgung haben die Überarbeitung der W 77 notwendig gemacht. Diese ÖVGW-Richtlinie soll jene Maßnahmen und Voraussetzungen aufzeigen, die vom Wasserversorgungsunternehmen bei der Bereitstellung des Löschwasserbedarfes zu berücksichtigen sind, wobei sowohl die Projektierung neuer Wasserversorgungsanlagen als auch die Überprüfung vorhandener Anlagenteile behandelt wird.
