Sie gilt nur für Einrichtungen mit Einschichtsolarzellen. Die spektrale Empfindlichkeit einer photovoltaischen Einrichtung wird für die Entwicklung und Analyse von Zellen angewendet, da sie ein Maß für die Rekombination und andere innerhalb des Halbleiters oder des Materialsystems der Zelle auftretende Prozesse darstellt.
