Dieser Teil der ÖVE/ÖNORM EN60794 legt die Anforderungen an Lichtwellenleiterkabel und Kabelelemente fest, die für den Außeneinsatz in Kommunikationsnetzen vorgesehen sind. Andere Anwendungen, die ähnliche Kabel-typen erfordern, können in Betracht kommen. In dieser Norm sind Anforderungen an Kabel für die Verlegung in Schächten oder direkt in der Erde, an Luftkabel sowie an Kabel für die Durchquerung von Seen und Flüssen enthalten. Ebenfalls enthalten sind Kabel für den speziellen Einsatz in der Kanalisation und in Wasser- und Gasleitungen.
