Diese ÖVE/ÖNORM gilt für die Kennzeichnung der Anschlüsse elektrischer Betriebsmittel wie Widerstände, Sicherungen, Relais, Schütze, Transformatoren, umlaufende elektrische Maschinen und sofern anwendbar Kombinationen solcher Betriebsmittel (z. B. Baugruppen) sowie auch für die Anwendung der Kennzeichnung an den Enden einiger bestimmter Leiter. In dieser Norm werden ebenfalls allgemeine Regeln für die Anwendung von bestimmten Farben oder alphanumerische Zeichen für die Kennzeichnung von Leitern festgelegt mit der Absicht, Doppeldeutigkeit zu vermeiden und eine sichere Betriebsweise sicherzustellen. Diese Farben oder alphanumerischen Zeichen für Leiter sind für die Anwendung in Kabeln und Leitungen oder Adern, Sammelschienen, Geräten und Installationen vorgesehen.
