Dieser Teil der Normenreihe 60079 enthält die spezifischen Anforderungen für die Planung, die Auswahl, die Errichtung und die Erstprüfung von elektrischen Anlagen in explosionsfähigen Atmosphären oder die mit explosionsfähigen Atmosphären verbunden sind. Wenn das Gerät auch gegen andere Umgebungsbedingungen, z. B. gegen das Eindringen von Wasser oder gegen Korrosion, geschützt sein soll, können zusätzliche Schutzanforderungen erforderlich sein. Die Anforderungen dieser Norm gelten nur für den Einsatz von Geräten unter standardmäßigen atmosphärischen Bedingungen, wie in 60079-0 festgelegt.
