Diese Europäische Norm gilt für Schutzeinrichtungen gegen netzfrequente Überspannungen (en: power frequency overvoltage protective device ¿ POP) für Hausinstallationen und für ähnliche Anwendungen mit einer Bemessungsfrequenz von 50 Hz, einer Bemessungswechselspannung von 230 V (zwischen Außenlei-ter und Neutralleiter), deren Einsatz in Kombination mit einer Hauptschutzeinrichtung (en: main protective device - MPD) vorgesehen ist, die entweder ein Leitungsschutzschalter (CB) nach EN 60898-1 oder EN 60898-2, ein Fehlerstrom-/Differenzstrom-Schutzschalter ohne eingebauten Überstromschutz (RCCB) nach EN 61008-1 oder ein Fehlerstrom-/Differenzstrom-Schutzschalter mit eingebautem Überstromschutz (RCBO) nach EN 61009-1 ist.
