Diese Internationale Norm gilt für die Familie der Lichtwellenleiterfilter. Diese Bauelemente besitzen die folgenden allgemeinen Merkmale:
- sie sind passiv, d. h. sie enthalten keine optoelektronischen oder sonstigen Übertragungselemente, welche die in den Eingangsanschluss eingekoppelten optischen Signale verarbeiten können;
- sie verändern die spektrale Intensitätsverteilung, um einige Wellenlängen auszuwählen und andere zu unterdrücken;
- sie sind feststehend, d. h. die Modifizierung der spektralen Intensitätsverteilung ist feststehend und kann nicht eingestellt werden;
- sie besitzen Eingangs- und Ausgangsanschlüsse oder einen gemeinsamen Anschluss (der beide Funktionen von Eingang und Ausgang innehat) für die Übertragung der optischen Leistung; die Anschlüsse sind Lichtwellenleiter oder LWL-Steckverbinder.
