Dieser Teil der IEC 60838 gilt für Lampenfassungen der verschiedensten Art, die ausschließlich zum Einbau vorgesehen sind (z.B. in der Anwendung mit Lampen für Allgemeinbeleuchtung, Projektion, Flutlicht- und Straßenbeleuchtung, versehen mit den in Anhang A aufgeführten Sockeln). Er beschreibt die Prüfverfahren, die anzuwenden sind, um den sicheren Gebrauch der Lampen in den Lampenfassungen zu regeln. Anforderungen für Lampenfassungen für röhrenförmige Leuchtstofflampen, Lampenfassungen mit Edisongewinde und Bajonett-Lampenfassungen sind in separaten Normen enthalten.
