Diese Internationale Norm legt Verfahren zur Messung der Gebrauchseigenschaften von Haushalt-Waschmaschinen für Textilien mit oder ohne Heizeinrichtung fest, die für den Anschluss an Kalt- und/oder Warmwasser vorgesehen sind. Sie behandelt außerdem Geräte zur Entwässerung durch Zentrifugalkraft (Wäscheschleudern), und sie gilt auch für die Waschfunktion(en) von Geräten, die Textilien sowohl waschen als auch trocknen (sogenannte Waschtrockner). Diese Europäische Norm gilt auch für Waschmaschinen, für die auslegungsgemäß im Normalbetrieb kein Waschmittel erforderlich ist.
