Diese Produktnorm gilt für schnurlose Kommunikationsgeräte, die in unmittelbarer Nähe zum menschlichen Ohr benutzt werden (z. B. Mobiltelefone, schnurlose Hör-/Sprech-Garnituren (Headsets)). Der anwendbare Frequenzbereich reicht von 300 MHz bis 6 GHz. Zweck dieser Norm ist, für diese Geräte die Übereinstimmung mit den auf die Exposition von Personen in hochfrequenten elektromagnetischen Feldern bezogenen Basis- und Expositionsgrenzwerten nachzuweisen. Für Geräte, die in unmittelbarer Nähe zum Körper oder vor dem Gesicht benutzt werden, ist EN 50566:2017 die zutreffende Produktnorm. Für Geräte mit kleiner Leistung ist EN 50663:2017 die zutreffende Produktnorm.
