ÖNORM S 5240-1

The standards series ÖNORM S 5240 "Image quality assurance in X-ray diagnostics" is part of the quality assurance in X-ray diagnostics. The objective of the standards series ÖNORM S 5240 is to support the operator and the technical user with suitable testing methods, to sustain the necessary image quality and to recognize deviations respectively, to minimize the patient's exposure to radiation in accordance with the diagnostic question from a technical point of view. The application of standards series ÖNORM S 5240 contributes to an accurate running and operating of the diagnostic X-ray department as well as to the prevention of repeated radiography and unnecessary patients's exposure to radiation. The standards series ÖNORM S 5240 implicates image quality assurance in diagnostic X-ray departments starting from the generation of X-rays to image replication. The present ÖNORM specifies definitions, testing methods and technical and organizational implementation. The following parts describe testing methods and equipment for controlling the limit values (e.g. values of constancy test).
