Die ÖNORM ist hinsichtlich Brandschutz und Brandbekämpfung in den Bereichen Medizin, Technik und Forschung bei der Planung und Errichtung von Räumen mit Arbeitsplätzen der Type A oder B gemäß Allgemeiner Strahlenschutzverordnung anzuwenden. An Räume mit Arbeitsplätzen der Type C gemäß Allgemeiner Strahlenschutzverordnung werden keine Anforderungen im Sinne dieser ÖNORM gestellt. Diese ÖNORM gilt nicht für den Umgang mit radioaktiven Stoffen für den nuklearen Brennstoff-Kreislauf. Die Bereitstellung von Löschmittel und Geräten für den Feuerwehreinsatz ist nicht Gegenstand dieser ÖNORM.
