The aim of this ÖNORM is the proper treatment of medical waste to avoid endangering persons through injury, infection or poisoning and to avoid environmental hazards. This ÖNORM is to be applied by all persons involved in the production and handling (provision, collection, transport, storage, recycling and disposal) of medical waste and by professionals in the cosmetics sector. This ÖNORM shall not apply to radioactive waste unless such waste may be disposed of in accordance with radiation protection provisions such as inactive waste.
