This standard describes the extraction of water soluble elements and compounds in soils. The importance of water-soluble elements and compounds is their immediate availability for physical, chemical and biochemical processes in soils. The chemical composition of the soil solution is dependent not only from the content and the composition of the soluble elements and compounds but also from the solid soil matrix, especially of the quality and content of humus and clays, and from the respective water content of soil. Since the extraction of soil solution in naturally occurring water content is difficult to match extracts are used with higher water contents than naturally occurring.
