This document is applicable to directly or indirectly heated, closed, water-borne heating systems (according to ÖNORM H 12828 and ÖNORM H 6151) as well as to water-borne, central cooling systems for air conditioning and industrial applications. This document specifies requirements for the prevention of corrosion damage, scale formation and deposits for the design, construction and operation of closed heating or cooling systems. Systems in this document include - closed heating systems, - closed air-conditioning chilled water systems, - closed cooling systems (re-cooling systems), - closed, combined heating and cooling systems (change-over systems) with a maximum operating temperature of 105 °C or a maximum protection temperature of 110 °C. In this document, these systems are referred to as heating or cooling systems for short. For systems with frost-protected heat transfer medium, ÖNORM H 5195-2 applies. This document does not apply to district heating networks and district cooling networks; for these, the guidelines of the network operator apply. If the manufacturer of the system or the producer of the components specifies requirements that go beyond the requirements of this document, these shall apply.
