This Austrian Standard shall be applied to the determination and calculation of energy indexes of buildings, particularly if they are heated. The energy index is intended to enable quick and easy comparison of similar buildings concerning their energy demand and to find out divergencies. The simpler the type of building and its use is, the higher is the significance of the energy index in general. Residential, office, school and administrative buildings are more suitable for this purpose than industrial buildings or buildings for multiple use.
