Festgelegt sind Bewertungsgruppen von Unregelmäßigkeiten an Schmelzschweißverbindungen (ausgenommen Strahlschweißen) für alle Sorten von Stahl, Nickel, Titan und deren Legierungen. Sie gelten für Werkstückdicken größer als 0,5 mm. Bewertungsgruppen für strahlgeschweißte Verbindungen an Stahl sind in EN ISO 13919-1 enthalten. Die drei Bewertungsgruppen sind so festgelegt, dass sie eine breite Anwendung in der schweißtechnischen Fertigung erlauben. Sie werden bezeichnet durch die Kennbuchstaben B, C und D; B ist am schwierigsten zu erreichen. Die Bewertungsgruppen beziehen sich auf die Fertigungsqualität und nicht auf die Gebrauchstauglichkeit des gefertigten Erzeugnisses. Die Norm gilt für manuelles, mechanisiertes und automatisches Schweißen, alle Schweißpositionen und alle Schweißverbindungen, zB Stumpfnähte, Kehlnähte und Rohrabzweigungen.
