Das Lichtbogen-Bolzenschweißen (Bolzenschweißen) dient zum Aufschweißen von vorwiegend stiftförmigen metallischen Teilen auf metallische Werkstücke. Das Verfahren wird ua. im Brückenbau (insbesondere im Verbundbau), Stahlbau, Schiffbau, Fassadenbau, Fahrzeugbau, Apparatebau, Dampfkesselbau und Haushaltsgerätebau eingesetzt. Beim Bolzenschweißen wird zwischen der Stirnfläche des Bolzens und dem Werkstück kurzzeitig ein Lichtbogen gezündet, beide Teile werden angeschmolzen und dann zusammengefügt. Nach der Art des Zündvorgangs unterscheidet man das Bolzenschweißen mit Hubzündung und das Bolzenschweißen mit Spitzenzündung. Der Durchmesserbereich der Bolzen geht im allgemeinen bis 8 mm bei der Spitzenzündung und bis 25 mm bei der Hubzündung. Festgelegt sind die besonderen Anforderungen beim Bolzenschweißen in bezug auf das schweißtechnische Fachwissen, die Qualitätsanforderungen, die Schweißanweisung, die Schweißverfahrensprüfung, die Prüfung von Schweißern und die Prüfung von Fertigungsschweissungen.
