Dieser Teil von EN 843 legt ein Verfahren zur Bestimmung der nominalen Biegefestigkeit von monolithischen keramischen Hochleistungswerkstoffen bei Raumtemperatur fest. Die möglichen Beanspruchungsanordnungen sind die Drei-Punkt- und die Vier-Punkt-Biegung, wobei Probekörper mit rechteckigem Querschnitt zweier vorgeschriebener Ausführungsformen verwendet werden: Auflagerabstand (A) 20 mm und Auflagerabstand (B) 40 mm. Diese Prüfung ist für Werkstoffe mit einer Korngröße kleiner als 200 µm geeignet. Die Prüfung schreibt vier Kategorien für die Oberflächen-Endbearbeitung der Probekörper vor: "as fired" oder nach der Bearbeitung geglüht; bearbeitet nach vereinbarten Schleifverfahren und Materialabtragsraten sowie Standard-Endbearbeitungsverfahren durch Endbearbeitung durch Schleifen und Endbearbeitung durch Läppen/Polieren.
