Die Norm enthält Verfahren zur Bestimmung der charakteristischen Werte Festigkeit, Steifigkeit und Rohdichte von Bauholz. sie dienen der Einordnung von Sortierklassen in einvorgegebenes Festigkeitsklassen-System. Die Norm enthält auch Verfahren, die regeln, wie charakteristische Werte bestimmt werden dürfen, wenn die benötigte Zahl von Ergebnissen aus Prüfungen am Vollquerschnitt nicht zur Verfügung steht oder wenn nur Ergebnisse von Prüfungen an kleineren Probekörpern vorliegen. Die Prüfungsauswertung erfolgt nach statistischen Gesichtspunkten.
