Diese Europäische Norm gilt für die Planung, den Einbau, die Inbetriebnahme und den Betrieb von Löscheinrichtungen mit Schwer-, Mittel- oder Leichtschaum. Schaumlöscheinrichtungen sind für die Bereitstellung einer homogenen Schicht aus Blasen, dem luftgefüllten Schaumlöschmittel und Wasser über der Oberfläche einer brennbaren Flüssigkeit (Klasse B) und/oder von brennbaren Werkstoffen (Klasse A). Die Blasenschicht unterdrückt das Freisetzen brennbarer Dämpfe, schließt die Luft aus und kühlt den Brennstoff sowie heiße Oberflächen. Zusätzlich dazu kann Leichtschaum verwendet werden, um geschlossene Räume auszufüllen, die dreidimensionalen Gefährdungen durch Brennstoffe der Klasse A und/oder der Klasse B ausgesetzt sind.
