Die sicherheitstechnischen Anforderungen und die Prüfungen für handgeführte Motormäher mit hin- und hergehenden (Mähbalken) oder rotierenden Schneidwerkzeugen werden festgelegt. Diese Geräte werden zum Schneiden oder Mulchen von Gras oder ähnlichen Pflanzen, Gestrüpp oder holziger Vegetation verwendet. Die Anforderungen gelten auch für auswechselbare Ausrüstungen, die an ein handgeführtes Grundgerät angebaut werden. Insbesondere behandelt werden Starteinrichtungen, Stellteile, Abgasanlage, Lenkanlage, Bremsen, Lärm und Schwingungen. Besondere Anforderungen sind für Messerbalken und Schneidwerkzeuge im Hinblick auf die Arbeitssicherheit festgelegt.
