Diese ÖNORM behandelt die Grundlagen für die technische Verchromung mit und ohne Zwischenschichten auf Eisen- und Nichteisenmetallen. Bei der technischen Verchromung (diese wird auch als Hartverchromung bezeichnet) wird Chrom in größeren Schichtdicken, als es bei der dekorativen Verchromung üblich ist, abgeschieden. Diese ÖNORM ist stets zusammen mit ÖNORM EN 1403 anzuwenden, welche allgemeine Angaben über Kurzbezeichnung, Grundwerkstoffe, Vorbehandlung, allgemeine Anforderungen an Überzüge, Schichtdicken, Prüfverfahren und dergleichen beinhaltet.
