Die in dieser ÖNORM festgelegten Anforderungen und Prüfungen sind auf "Heizöl extra leicht" und "Heizöl extra leicht - schwefelarm" anzuwenden. Bezüglich des Schwefelgehaltes werden in dieser Norm zwei Qualitäten festgelegt (Heizöl extra leicht und Heizöl extra leicht - schwefelarm). Heizöl extra leicht - schwefelarm ist nur für den Einsatz in solchen Brenner-Systemen geeignet, für die eine entsprechende Freigabe der Brenner-Hersteller vorliegt. In bestimmten Anlagen darf nach Vorgabe der Hersteller oder nach Vorgabe lokaler Abwasserregelungen allein Heizöl extra leicht - schwefelarm eingesetzt werden.
