Die Norm ist für alle werksmäßig endgefertigten Dämmstoffe aus expandiertem Korkschrot/Korkgranulat, die vorwiegend für die Wärmedämmung im Hochbau verwendet und als Dämmkork (DK) bezeichnet werden, anzuwenden. Sie enthält die an diese Dämmstoffe zu stellenden Anforderungen sowie die zugehörigen Verfahrensbestimmungen für die Prüfung, Überwachung und Kennzeichnung dieser Produkte. Die zur Feststellung der geforderten Eigenschaften notwendigen Prüfmethoden sind der ÖNORM B 6010 zu entnehmen. Die ÖNORM B 6031 ist auch für Dämmkork mit Beschichtungen (z. B. Dachpappe, Papier-, Metall- und Kunststoff-Folien) anzuwenden. Die Norm sieht eine Fremdüberwachung aufgrund eines Überwachungsvertrages mit einer österreichischen staatlich autorisierten Prüfanstalt sowie die Kennzeichnung "ÖNORM B 6031 geprüft" vor.
