Die Norm enthält die Beschreibung des statistischen Verfahrens, mit dem der Nennwert der Wärmeleitfähigkeit für Dämmstoffe, wie er in der ÖNORM B 6015 Teil 2 definiert ist, ermittelt wird. Dieser Nennwert der Wärmeleitfähigkeit ist als Grundlage für bauphysikalische Berechnungen (k-Wert, R-Wert u.ä.) heranzuziehen, wenn das zur Anwendung kommende Produkt eines Erzeugers bereits festgelegt ist, und entspricht in dieser Hinsicht - nicht im Zahlenwert - dem bisher üblichen Rechenwert der Wärmeleitfähigkeit. Der Erzeuger muß gewährleisten, daß die von ihm produzierten Baustoffe den angegebenen Nennwert der Wärmeleitfähigkeit aufweisen bzw. nicht überschreiten. Dieser Nennwert berücksichtigt den Einfluß der Baufeuchtigkeit sowie die Alterung des Materials, nicht aber verarbeitungstechnische Einflüsse.
