Die Berechnung von Eisenbahnbrücken in Spannbetonbauweise erfordert eine Reihe von besonderen Lastannahmen und Lastkombinationen sowie von kostruktiven Vorkehrungen, deren Festlegung in einer allgemeinen Norm für Spannbeton-Tragwerke (ÖNORM B 4250) den Rahmen der letzteren sprengen würde. Unter anderem finden hier Vereinbarungen ihren Niederschlag, die von den Bahnverwaltungen auf internationaler Ebene getroffen wurden. Bezüglich jener Konstruktions- und Ausführungsregeln, die für Spannbeton-Bauwerke aller Art gleichermaßen zu gelten haben, ist ÖNORM B 4253 mit der zur gleichen Zeit erscheinenden ÖNORM B 4250 deckungsgleich.
