Die Norm enthält Angaben über die im Bauwesen anzusetzenden Nutzlasten in kPa, die bei der bestimmungsgemäßen Benützung von Bauwerken zu erwarten sind; für Straßenbrücken ist jedoch die ÖNORM B 4002, für Eisenbahnbrücken die ÖNORM B 4003 Teil 1, für Straßenbahnbrücken die ÖNORM B 4003 Teil 2, für Krane und Kranbahnen die ÖNORM B 4004 und für Gerüste die ÖNORM B 4007 maßgebend. Die Norm enthält weiters Grundsätze, die bei der Berechnung der Nutzlasten einzuhalten sind. Außer diesen veränderlichen Einwirkungen enthält sie auch einen Abschnitt über außergewöhnliche Einwirkungen, und zwar über Horizontalstöße von Fahrzeugen.
