ÖNORM B 3800-5

The present ÖNORM serves to test and evaluate the behavior of facades in the event of fire, in particular the assessment of fire propagation via the facade surface. The assumed scenario is a full fire in a room that breaks out of a window and attacks the adjacent facade. For the assessment, that contribution to the spread of fire is used that the specific facade design (shape, building materials, assembly systems, etc.) offers in addition to the spread that is always present. With the test results from this ÖNORM, it can be predicted whether a facade will promote the spread of fire from the second floor above the source of the fire and whether there is a risk to rescue teams from this area, in particular due to the falling of large parts. The fire behavior and any side effects of fire that can be caused by a window burnout on the first floor above the primary seat of the fire are not the subject of the investigations. The immediate scope lies in the testing of external wall thermal insulation composite systems, curtain, rear-ventilated and curtain, ventilated facades in connection with the requirements formulated in OIB Guideline 2 and OIB Guideline 2.3. Determining the fire resistance period is not the subject of this document. In this ÖNORM only the fulfillment of the protection goals — effective limitation of fire spread, — no falling of large parts and — no danger to rescue teams rated. Irrespective of the stipulations of this ÖNORM, the building regulations must be ob-served.
