Die Norm enthält eine grobe Einteilung in geographische Gebiete mit unterschiedlicher Sonnenstrahlung. Sie soll dazu dienen, angemessene Grenzwerte der Sonnenstrahlung auszuwählen, wenn dies bei der Verwendung von Erzeugnissen von Bedeutung ist. Mit Ausnahme von Gebieten oberhalb 5000 m über NN werden alle Arten geographischer Gebiete berücksichtigt.
