Der modulare Ansatz, der dabei genutzt wird, erlaubt zukünftige Erweiterungen der Positionsbestimmungsregeln zu anderen Verkehrs- und Reisebotschaftssystemen. Die Positionsbestimmungsregeln, welche in dieser Norm festgelegt sind, adressieren spezifische Anforderungen von TMC-Systemen, die verkürzte Kodierformate zur Versorgung von TTI-Botschaften über Mobilfunkträger (z.B. GSM, DAB) oder über Austauschprotokolle wie DATEX benutzen.
