Dieser Teil der Internationalen Norm legt die Mindest-Betriebs- und -Leistungsanforderungen, die Prüfverfahren und geforderten Prüfergebnisse für AIS-Geräte der Klasse B mit CSTDMA-Technik auf Schiffen fest. Die Norm ist anwendbar für AIS-Geräte, die auf Schiffen genutzt werden, für die nach SOLAS Kapitel V keine Verpflichtung zum Einsatz besteht. Diese 3. Ausgabe ersetzt die zweite Ausgabe der Norm zusammen mit den editoriellen Korrekturen entsprechend ihrer Änderung 1 und ergänzt die Möglichkeit der Direkt-Synchronisation mit einer internen UTC-Quelle als Synchronisationsverfahren. Verweisungen zur gegenwärtigen ITU-R Empfehlung M.1371-5 sind aktualisiert.
