Diese ÖVE/ÖNORM gilt für Näherungsschalter mit erhöhter Fehlersicherheit (PDF). Er legt Anforderungen für vier verschiedene Arten von PDF fest. Aufgrund ihrer erhöhten Fehlersicherheit werden PDF z. B. angewendet bei: - Verriegelungseinrichtungen (siehe ISO 14119); - Erkennung des Vorhandenseins oder Nichtvorhandenseins von Schutzeinrichtungen (siehe ISO/TR 12100-1). Bei PDF, die in Anwendungen verwendet werden, die zusätzliche Eigenschaften erfordern, die in anderen Normen behandelt werden, ist es notwendig, die Anforderungen aller relevanten Normen zu erfüllen.
