This International Standard gives definitions of terms
relating to powder metallurgy1). Powder metallurgy is
the branch of metallurgy which relates to the manufacture
of metallic powders, or of articles made from
such powders with or without the addition of nonmetallic
powders, by the application of forming and
sintering processes.
The terms are classified under the following main
headings:
1 Powders
2 Forming
3 Sintering
4 Post-sintering treatments
5 Powder metallurgy materials
An alphabetical index of the terms defined is also
given.
NOTE 1 In addition to terms and definitions used in English
and French, two of the official ISO languages, this International
Standard gives the equivalent terms and definitions
in the German language; these are published under the responsibility
of the member body for Germany (DIN). However,
only the terms and definitions given in the official
languages can be considered as ISO terms and definitions.
NOTE 2 Additional information on certain of the terms defined
can be found in the standards given in parentheses at
the end of certain definitions. These are listed in the Bibliography.
