Für wiederbefüllbare, ortsbewegliche geschweißte Gasflaschen aus Stahl für die Aufnahme von verdichteten, verflüssigten und unter Druck gelösten Gasen (für Acetylen sind zusätzliche Anforderungen in EN 1800 enthalten) mit einem Fassungsraum von 0,5 Liter bis einschließlich 150 Liter sind Gestaltung, Konstruktion, Aufbau und Fertigung festgelegt. Weiters sind die erforderlichen Prüfungen angegeben. Bestimmungen über die zugelassenen Werkstoffe sowie über deren Wärmebehandlungen sind ebenso enthalten wie die notwendigen Berechnungsformeln und Konstruktionsrichtlinien. Die technischen Anforderungen zur Erlangung der Bauartzulassung sowie die der Annahmeprüfung sind im Detail beschrieben. Die verschiedenen Arten der Druckprüfungen werden behandelt. Die Bewertung von Herstellungsfehlern und die Bedingungen für die Zurückweisung zum Zeitpunkt der Sichtprüfung beim Hersteller sowie Richtlinien für die Durchführung von Röntgenprüfungen sind in Abhängigkeit von der Flaschenkonstruktion zusammengestellt.
