Die Norm ist für alle werksmäßig endgefertigten expandierten Polystyrol-Partikelschaumstoffe (EPS), die für die Wärmedämmung und/oder für die Trittschalldämmung im Hochbau verwendet werden, anzuwenden. Sie enthält die an diese Dämmstoffe zu stellenden Anforderungen sowie die zugehörigen Verfahrensbestimmungen für die Prüfung, Überwachung und Kennzeichnung dieser Produkte. Die zur Feststellung der geforderten Eigenschaften notwendigen Prüfmethoden sind der ÖNORM B 6010 zu entnehmen. Die ÖNORM B 6050 sieht eine Fremdüberwachung aufgrund eines Überwachungsvertrages mit einer österreichischen staatlich autorisierten Prüfanstalt sowie die Kennzeichnung "ÖNORM B 6050 geprüft" vor. Für Polystyrol-Extruderschaumstoff XPS ist die ÖNORM B 6053 heranzuziehen.
