Die vorliegende Norm legt Mindestleistungsanforderungen an unterschiedliche Bauarten von Überfüllsicherungen fest, die für metallische oder nichtmetallische ortsfeste werksgefertigte Tanks gelten. Es werden Einrichtungen für unterirdische und oberirdische Tanks mit einer Maximalhöhe von 5 m behandelt. Für die Beschreibung der unterschiedlichen Bauarten von Überfüllsicherungen wurden zwei Typen gebildet: Typ A: Überfüllsicherung, deren Funktion nicht von einem Versorgungsfahrzeug oder Versorgungssystem abhängig ist; Typ B Überfüllsicherungen, deren Funktion von einem Versorgungsfahrzeug oder Versorgungssystem abhängig ist.
