Diese Europäische Norm richtet sich hauptsächlich an Prüflaboratorien und Hersteller von Alkohol-Interlocks. Sie legt Anforderungen und Prüfverfahren für die Typzulassung fest. Einzelne Parameter (wie zum Beispiel Alkoholkonzentration oder Atemvolumen) sind in dieser Europäischen Norm nur für den Zweck der Baumusterprüfung nach dieser Norm festgelegt.
