Diese Internationale Norm legt ein Verfahren für die Bestimmung der Izod-Schlagzähigkeit von Kunststoffen unter festgelegten Bedingungen fest. Eine Anzahl von unterschiedlichen Probekörpern und Prüfanordnungen wird festgelegt. Es werden Prüfbedingungen festgelegt, die sich je nach dem Werkstoff, dem Probekörper-Typ und der Kerbform unterscheiden. Das Prüfverfahren erlaubt das Verhalten festgelegter Probekörper bei den festgelegten Schlagbedingungen zu untersuchen und die Sprödigkeit oder Zähigkeit von Probekörpern innerhalb der Grenzen der Prüfbedingungen festzustellen.
