OVE E 8101 enthält Anforderungen für die Planung, Errichtung und Prüfung von elektrischen Niederspannungsanlagen. Diese Anforderungen dienen dem Schutz von Personen, Nutztieren und Sachwerten vor Gefahren und Beschädigungen, die bei bestimmungsgemäßer Nutzung elektrischer Niederspannungsanlagen entstehen können. Außerdem tragen diese Anforderungen zum Erhalt der ordnungsgemäßen Funktion bei. Diese Anforderungen gelten zB für Wohnungen und Wohngebäude; Gewerbe und Industrie, Bürogebäude; öffentliche Gebäude; landwirtschaftliche und gartenbauliche Anwesen; Fertigteilgebäude, Caravans, Campingplätze und ähnliche Plätze; Baustellen, Ausstellungen, Messen und andere vorübergehend errichtete Anlagen; Marinas; Beleuchtungsanlagen im Freien und ähnliche Anlagen ; medizinisch genutzte Bereiche; bewegliche oder transportable elektrische Anlagen; Photovoltaische Anlagen (PV-Anlagen); Niederspannungsstromerzeugungseinrichtungen, sowie zugehörige elektrische Anlagen. Diese Norm gilt für die Errichtung von Niederspannungsanlagen mit einer Bemessungsspannung einschließlich 1 000 V Wechselspannung oder 1 500 V Gleichspannung.
