Dipl.-Ing. Harald Plöckinger is the new vice-president of Austrian Standards. The 52-year old Upper Austrian was unanimously elected to this function by the Extraordinary General Assembly held in the evening of Wednesday, 4 December 2013. Thus, he succeeded to Dr. Bernd Vogl, former Member of the Board of Voith Austria Holding AG.

Plöckinger who graduated from the Technical University of Graz (mechanical engineering) is member of the Executive Boards of KTM Sportmotorcycle AG and KTM AG and his responsibilities include logistics, business development, production, procurement and co-operation with the Indian automotive manufacturer Bajaj Auto Ltd. Earlier in his career, he worked in engine development at BMW and served as the head of production and managing director of Bombardier-Rotax.

"Standards raise safety," states Plöckinger, "for example, by defining material properties for components or specifying clear requirements for production processes. This also results in legal certainty." Moreover, the new Vice-President of Austrian Standards is convinced that participating in the development of standards brings clear strategic advantages.

Plöckinger considers it to be one of his main tasks as a vice-president to raise awareness of the importance of standards because they are "the common language of the international economy based on the division of labour and open up new markets."
