Wolfgang Hribernik

Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Wolfgang Hribernik heads the Center for Energy at the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT). There, the electrical engineer who graduated from the renowned ETH Zurich is responsible for scientific, economic and strategic development. Research priorities are the transformation of the energy system as well as the development and integration of the technologies required for this change. An important milestone of Wolfgang Hribernik’s work was the establishment of the Smart Electricity System & Technology lab.

Dr. Hribernik is active in national and international organizations. The expert is a member of the VDE Association for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies, senior member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Secretary General of the Austrian National Committee of the Conseil International des Grands Réseaux Electriques (CIGRE) as well as a member of the Executive Committee of the European Energy Research Alliance (EERA). Within the Austrian flagship regions for energy, Wolfgang Hribernik is in charge of network coordination for the programme New Energy for Industry (NEFI). In the innovation environment, the expert calls for early standardization activities in research and development in order to speed up and optimize the process for bringing highly innovative energy technologies to market. Dr. Hribernik has been a member of the Presidential Council of Austrian Standards International since 2019.
