VHR Dipl.-Ing. Walter Steinacker is Provincial Construction Director at the Office of the Provincial Government of Lower Austria. He studied technical physics at TU Wien and, after having worked in positions of responsibility at the Lower Austrian Environmental Protection Agency and Environment Agency Austria, he joined the Office of the Provincial Government in 1988. There, the father of two grown-up children is in charge of a team of 354 employees, the authorized expert system, building construction and the legal implementation of technical standards.
Being the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Austrian Institute of Construction Engineering (OIB) and the representative of the provinces on the Advisory Board on Standardization of Austrian Standards, Walter Steinacker is extremely familiar with formulating and applying legal and technical requirements. “Standards ensure transparent and objective competition. Standardized procedures and products create trust and ensure safety,” explains Provincial Construction Director Steinacker. The goal-oriented manager likes to take on strategic and economic policy challenges and focuses on implementation in his activities. Walter Steinacker has given lectures on subjects such as technical environmental protection and the real estate industry at various universities of applied sciences. Since 2019, he has also contributed his expertise to the Presidential Council of Austrian Standards International.
