The graduate engineer for forest and wood management is the managing director of GrünstattGrau Forschungs- und Innovations GmbH, the first "innovation lab for green urban technologies". In the course of her career, Susanne Formanek worked, for example, for the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), the Lower Austrian business agency ecoplus and the Austrian Energy Agency. The main priorities of her activities include sustainable, energy-efficient building and housing, building biology, material ecology and the digital transformation of the construction sector. Formanek initiated and implemented numerous research, development and co-operation projects.
The innovative Viennese integrates not only strategic inputs but also gender aspects into her work and is frequently seen as a role model in the construction sector. For her, standards are "like a common language, build trust and are of great importance for all of us. They make it possible to ensure consistent quality over time and to define processes in a traceable and reproducible way. They also provide a benchmark for handling, safety and fitness for purpose." Susanne Formanek also is the president of the Austrian Institute for Healthy and Ecological Building (IBO) and has been a member of the Presidential Council of Austrian Standards since 2018.
