Peter Bauer

Univ.Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Peter Bauer is professor of structural design at the TU Wien and vice-president of the Division of Consulting Engineers in the Chamber of Architects and Consulting Engineers for Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. He specializes in structural design and has headed the Department of Structural Design and Timber Engineering at the Institute of Architectural Sciences of TU Wien since 2018. The graduated civil engineer has worked as a self-employed consulting engineer for almost 25 years and has been managing partner of the structural engineering firm Werkraum-Ingenieure since 1998.

For Peter Bauer, standards fulfil an important social function: They specify sound methods for achieving defined or agreed objectives and, as generally accepted state-of-the-art practices, guarantee risk-free access to the market also for SMEs. What is important for the problem solver who is fond of unconventional solutions in this context is that access is as broad as possible. Peter Bauer is a member of the International Association for Bridge and Structural Engineering (IABSE), has served on the Board of the Austrian Steel Construction Association since 2015 and has been a member of the Presidential Council of Austrian Standards International since 2019. Professor Bauer contributes his extensive expertise in structural design to various committees – mainly in the field of construction standardization.
