Dipl.-Ing. Mark Topal-Gökceli who studied civil engineering with a focus on business administration heads the Rail System Engineering and Operations department of ÖBB Holding AG. The committed rail manager pursues the ambitious goal of further developing the world of railways by using new technologies and making it even more attractive and better. In the past, he lived up to that aspiration in the planning of large-scale infrastructure projects such as the intermodal terminal at the Rail Freight Centre Vienna South and the Vienna Main Station. In his function as research and development co-ordinator, he was also responsible for interoperability and standards during his career with ÖBB.
For Topal-Gökceli, standards are "very important, but have to be drafted in such a way that they never jeopardize innovation and profitability." The manager has played a leading role in numerous harmonization processes and takes pleasure in innovation and responsibility. Mark Topal-Gökceli serves on the supervisory boards of ÖBB Technische Services GmbH and ÖBB Produktion GmbH, teaches at the FH Campus Wien and is a member of the Presidential Council of Austrian Standards.
