Dipl.-Ing. Christian Gabriel, born in Upper Austria, heads the standardization department of the Austrian Electrotechnical Association (OVE). In this capacity, he also is the managing director of the Austrian Electrotechnical Committee (OEK). Having worked in standardization at the national, European and international level for more than 20 years, Gabriel also acts as the secretary of the Austrian national committees for the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) whose Austrian member is the OVE.
For Gabriel, standards laid down in the electrotechnical field – but also in other fields – primarily ensure functionality and (legal) certainty. He views their application as a win-win situation for users, manufacturers and builders of electrotechnical installations and equipment. In his activities as university lecturer, court-certified expert and consultant, Gabriel also highlights the special importance of standardization from a strategic economic and legal perspective. Since 2018 Christian Gabriel has been a member of the Presidential Council of Austrian Standards.
