Setting Standards
Standards are made by those who need them: Economy, Administration, Science, Consumers. Their representatives invest time and know-how into the development of standards – in their own and in the interest of the collective, thereby designing the framework for doing business - in Austria, Europe and the world.
Conscious Participation
These experts are active in diverse committees and work groups of Austrian Standards Institute Development. Delegates from these committees on the other hand, represent the Austrian position in the respective European and international committees.
About 2000 new and updated rules and standards are developed at Austrian Standards Institute every year. About 5900 experts in about 190 committees with approximately 450 work groups are involved in the development of standards in Austria. Moreover, Austria is represented in over 900 committees of the European Committee for Standardization CEN and in over 750 committees of the International Organization for Standardization ISO.
The development of standards is carried out according to internationally acknowledged procedures. The Austrian Standards Institute is responsible for the management of practical standardisation. The development department provides the necessary infrastructure with its experienced and high-qualified committee-managers
